School of Life: Holistic Education and Nourishing Our Children
Hi, y’all! Johanna here from the TX Soil Sisters.
(Link to the show below. Or skip my fluff and listen here.)
In this episode of the Soil Sisters podcast, we welcome our friends Ethan Peters and Angela Bartys, educators and business owners in our sweet little town of Lockhart, Texas.
The discussion centers on holistic education and the benefits of homeschooling, farm-to-school programs, and some of the recent insights we gained from the Southern Family Farmers and Food Systems Conference.
Ethan, a principal at two Lockhart campuses, elaborates on his work at an alternative school and a discipline management center, emphasizing the creation of safe spaces for diverse learning.
Angela and Ethan also introduce their new Lockhart-based 'School of Life' educational initiative, blending traditional academics with practical skills, nature immersion, and spiritual growth. They discuss the logistical details, philosophical underpinnings, and the potential societal impacts of their approach.
‘School of Life’ is set to begin as a homeschool/farm school co-op next month (Sept 2024) and as a full-fledged Apogee education center by August 2025. (Links to learn more below.)
We get in the weeds on developing emotional intelligence and authenticity, project-based learning, reconnecting with nature, and integrating family education, all while fostering community collaboration. Whether or not you have children of your own, this episode contains pearls of wisdom to serve us all.
We never graduate from the school of life, so we invite you to listen, subscribe, and grow with the Soil Sisters.
Happy farming and healthy living, y’all!
Love,
Jo (and Crystal) ❤️

‘School Of Life’
We are thrilled to announce the launch of a groundbreaking educational initiative that will transform the way our children learn and grow. The ‘School of Life- Lockhart’ will start as a Homeschool Co-Op two days per week with one farm day and one class room day. The plan is to open an Apogee Campus in Lockhart by Fall of 2025.
Apogee was founded by Matt Beaudreau and Tim Kennedy, and was created to give the power of educating our children back into the hands of the parents and the community. Apogee is designed for every school to be unique and allow for complete autonomy over curriculum, schedule, systems and operations, testing, programs, etc. The core of Apogee is sovereignty on all fronts, and that may look a little different for each campus.
The School of Life (future Apogee) homeschool co-op and farm school, is rooted in the rich teachings and philosophies of Rudolf Steiner, Montessori, nature and project-based learning, Coyote mentoring, and Socratic methods, focusing on the development of the whole child: Mental, Spiritual, Physical, Emotional, Social, and Creative.
We plan to evolve into a fully functioning hybrid campus offering a unique blend of homeschooling and communal learning experiences right here in our community.
