Rooted in Texas: Aaron Owens’ Trail to Tejas Tonic
Hi, y’all! Johanna here from the TX Soil Sisters.
(Podcast media player below w/ links to things we talk about. Or skip my fluff and listen here.)
In this podcast discussion, We crack open the official beverage of the TX Soil Sisters with Aaron Owens, a longtime goat and cattle rancher, innovator in the Texas hemp industry and the creator of Tejas Tonic.
Back in November, Crystal, Dionne, and I stopped off for a visit with Aaron at his farm in Dripping Springs. Aaron is the first person I met in the Texas hemp industry when I moved home from California in 2022.
On the podcast, we discuss Aaron’s West Texas roots and the challenges and opportunities in the Texas hemp market. Aaron details his journey from cowboying and ranching in West Texas to farming and building a hemp-derived beverage business. The conversation covers the importance of genetics in agriculture, the complexities of the hemp and cannabis markets, and the legislative landscape affecting hemp farmers and businesses in Texas. Aaron underscores the necessity of banning synthetic cannabinoids while promoting plant-derived THC for the sustainability of local farmers and the hemp industry in Texas.
Prior to founding Tejas Hemp in 2017, Owens’ focused on agriculture, ranching goats and cattle in West Texas for about 15 years. His pivot into the hemp industry was driven by his passion for cannabis and his desire to participate legally in the business without leaving Texas. Tejas Tonic is produced using organically farmed hemp from the Texas Hill Country, specifically from farms in Dripping Springs and Luckenbach, Texas. And Tejas Tonic is the official beverage of the Soil Sisters podcast.
Tejas Tonic, is a sparkling seltzer that contains 25mg of CBD and 5mg of THC per can. It is available in multiple flavors, including Natural Lime, Agarita Berry, and Frio Mango. Tejas Tonic is marketed as a natural, sugar-free, zero calorie, tasty alternative to alcohol that can help with relaxation and stress relief without the hangover.
Happy farming and healthy living, y’all!
Love,
Jo (and Crystal) ❤️
